Key Responsibilities
As a Charge Nurse in the Medical/Surgical Ward, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Professional Nursing Care: Provide professional nursing care within an assigned unit according to established standards and procedures.
- Supervisory Skills: Assist in the administration of nursing programs by providing supervisory skills needed in directing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and coordinating nursing care and the delivery of patient care in an assigned unit.
- Inventory Management: Maintain and update inventory to ensure that comprehensive care is given to each patient and evaluate the services rendered.
- Staff Scheduling: Schedule nursing personnel to ensure adequate staffing for each shift.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with the Chief of Nursing Manager in determining and obtaining equipment and supplies needed for patient care.
- Patient and Family Needs: Assist nursing personnel in identifying patient and family needs and provide counseling when required.
- Standards of Care: Participate in setting patient care standards and ensure compliance with physicians’ orders in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Unit Management: Work with the Chief of Nursing Services to address special nursing problems and provide guidance for handling.
- Compliance and Quality Control: Ensure compliance with quality and accreditation standards, proper disposal of sharps and hospital waste, and monitor internal controls for the department.
